The Mobile Vision Program is operated by the Lucas County Regional Health District and funded by the United Way of Greater Toledo. Vision services are provided to students, identified by schools as having potential vision problems. A vision team, which includes both an optometrist and optician, travels to individual schools in the Toledo to perform eye examinations.
The program that began in the 2011/2012 school year has examined over 1,200 students and dispensed over 800 pairs of eyeglasses, free of charge, every school year. It has also seen hundreds more at other facilities during the summer. In addition, visual conditions are diagnosed and appropriate interventional actions are recommended to parents and guardians.
