The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department supports, maintains, and delivers a wide variety of public health initiatives which promote healthy student activities, choices, and prevent disease and injuries. Student health is related to success in the classroom and the following programs make a positive impact on student health and academic success.
TLCHD has Public Health Nurses serving as school nurses and delivering direct care to students in coordination with their healthcare providers and families, keeping students healthier and in the classroom.
The Mobile Vision Program, provides comprehensive examinations to students and dispenses corrective lenses in order to promote learning through better vision.
TLCHD has two long-standing mobile programs dedicated to the promotion and maintenance of oral health of students; the Dental Sealant Program provides free dental sealants and follow-up services, free of charge to targeted area schools. The School-Based Dental Clinic Program is a mobile program providing students in targeted schools with comprehensive dental care.
