The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department will no longer offer this service after June 30, 2018. Please call 567-218-1900 for updates.
The Health Department offers prenatal clinics downtown and at the Western Lucas County Clinic. The prenatal clinics are staffed by certified nurse midwives, registered nurses, and an OB/GYN doctor. All provide care to pregnant women and to women who need gynecological care and birth control. Interpreters are provided as needed.
Health education is emphasized in the prenatal clinic. Nurses counsel women on smoking cessation, nutrition, the need for early prenatal care, the importance of breastfeeding, prevention of sexually transmitted infections and many other health topics. Safe sleep education is emphasized with the offer of portable cribs to qualified moms.
**The Health Department will not turn away any patient based upon ability to pay. All fees are billed according to a sliding fee scale.**
